I've seen enough in all my 46 years living here...From the best times (1980s) to the worst that now (2020's). The dream is dead, its better to go somewhere else but where as this is happening all over the world now and soo it will happen in that part of Asia too. This is just the start sadly. I moved to Japan from Australia during the middle of the plandemic. I was granted a travel exemption. I hate to say it but Australia will never return to being what it was . I grew up in Sydney in the 80s and compared to now it's a disaster. The cost of living in a joke. Get out if you can and see how the rest of the world lives .

One of the culture shocks going to Japan from Australia was the food. The quality and taste was just awesome, even mcdonald's burgers was made well and not slapped together like back in Aus.

Mate. I am in an opposite situation. I used to be based in Malaysia for 8 years and really enjoyed quality of life and being able to save money until the kids reached their teens. I'm afraid you'll be facing the same decision where you want your kids to spend their formative years. We ended up moving to Australia and were lucky enough to get a well paid job. Nevertheless in spite of earning 2x, 3x more we were saving less than in Malaysia. Quality of life is better but at what cost. I fully get your dilema. I myself am often thinking back to how comfortable our life used to be in Malaysia. It's a tough one. All the best.

Living in Australia is like playing Monopoly, except every property on the board is Mayfair and you no longer start with $1500 like you did in the 90s but now start with $150 due to inflation. But Mayfair still costs $400 to buy so good luck getting around the board 3 times without going bankrupt.

Iv been in my job 30 years been through a separation and lost a lot but it's going to be impossible to retire here with my current partner of 8 years . While people are currently arguing about where inflation is coming from, the large corporations in food, energy and banking are making record profits in the Billions of $$ each time they report to the shareholders. This is where inflation is coming from, the greedy leeches are getting away with it and we are letting them. I've been in Perth 50 years and it's just horrible now compared to how wonderful a community it used to be.

Cost of living in Penang is cheaper than in Sydney, but how about the income level after tax? Living in Penang I imagine would be similar to living in Goulburn in NSW, both third-tier cyclites. Comparing living in Penang with living in Sydney is not quite comparing apple with apple.

Thanks for the great info mate, your knowledge is so valuable for anyone working on living in Asia, and plan to leave Australia. One of your early video mentioned about continue to generate an income, while you live overseas, and having a Plan B to return to Australia; something we all must keep in mind leaving your home. I love Australia, hate to leave, knowing the fact that I will not able to live in Australia as the spending power of my salary is shrinking on accelerated rate. Approaching retirement age, the dream of staying in Australia is no longer viable, finding a place and way of live to stretch the dollar is priority. One thing I do recommend for anyone like to try living overseas, do spend a longer trip at your selected destination, find out what it is like living there for a few months. I have done that in Thailand, would like to try out either Penang, Ipoh or Johor, would help to make the final destination later on.

People hers in oz tried to rain on my parade but i realized they were jealous and ignorant. I got treated for deangue fever for $10. A filling or having a tooth removed is $10. Implants are $500 not $5000 like here. The drs/dentists were trained in france as it was once a french colony. I can tell you now im going backwards to the poor due to heart disease/fighting for my son in children's court which i won. But ill tell you this i wont be retiring in Australia. You can buy homes in spain for $2000 and up plus there your on the door step of Europe. Enjoy it while you can. The kids will be fine in an international school. This place gets more regulated by the day when our leaders are competing to put the most laws in during gheir rein. Gillard boasted she put over 240 new laws in. Until something changes, in an unstable country, government and if someone gets sick my thought process is you will be on a plane so fast to you guessed it back to Australia. East Asian countries can be unstable the way governments work, there are solid reasons why it’s cheaper, if you scratch the surface you will see why.

My two children, who are highly educated and have a great work ethic, are leaving Australia. They just cannot see themselves getting ahead in so many aspects of life. Australia has changed too much in the wrong direction.

Not saying there's anything wrong with Malaysia, your quality of life sounds lovely. But where's all the videos of people moving to Perth, Mount Gambier, Port Douglas, Hobart, Fremantle, Cairns, Bundaberg, Tewantin, Albury, Wagga Wagga, Toowoomba, Shepparton, Geelong? Why is it always the most expensive cities and tourist magnet town residents, writing off the entire continent? It's like someone in the heart of NYC or LA saying the entire United States is unaffordable and lacking Quality of Life and going to the Carribean. Can you imagine somebody from the United States doing a video where they write off the entire continent before looking at places like Buffalo, Rochester, San Jose, Dallas etc? They have facilities, sports, families, children, parks, leisure activities, internet...

Then there is living in a very different culture and learning the language .. what about the kids? We can’t all move.
